Differential yokes couple the pinion to the driveshaft. Yokes are specific to the differential itself. Although changing a yoke is as simple as removing the pinion nut and pulling the yoke off, installation is a bit more involved, therefor, changing a yoke should be done by a qualified mechanic. When a differential is assembled, there is a "crush sleeve" between the pinion bearings and that crush sleeve is crushed as the pinion nut is tightened to set pinion depth. If the nut you removed is not placed back in the same exact position as before, either the crush sleeve will be loose, resulting in a loose pinion, or the crush sleeve will be tightened, changing the pinion depth thus resulting in a different ring gear to pinion gear mesh. An impact gun should never be used to remove or install a pinion nut if the differential carrier is installed. The "blows" from the impact gun will cause the pinion to rotate and abruptly smack the ring gear, potentially causing a gear tooth to chip. Pinion seals should be changed when a yoke is changed.
