Differential covers allow access to inspect and service the differential. Differential covers are specific to the differential. On 10-bolt models, the covers are also specific to the carrier size (7 1/2", 7 5/8", 8 1/2", etc). All factory covers are stamped steel, with the exception of some rare optioned SLP cars. 9-bolt differentials have a fill plug, all others do not (the fill plug is on the differential housing).
